| Jetski |
|
| Hopefully your jetski will perform well and provide you with a very enjoyable season. Unfortunately things can go wrong and even though you have charged
the battery you may be faced with a loud clunk when you turn the
key, don’t keep trying to start it, the problem may well be
that water has seeped into the bores and/or crank cases while the
ski has been standing. This then corrodes the bores and crank bearings and locks the engine
solid. |
 |
| If you keep trying to start it you may damage the
starter gears, older seadoos are particularly prone to this
problem. If this has happened take the plugs out and see if
you can turn the engine over by hand or gently with grips on the
drive coupling at the back of the engine. If you can’t
or there is lots of resistance you will have to strip the
engine. See services page. |

| Top Tip! |
| With an older ski if you have left your ski in the water for
more than a couple of hours or for more than a few days on the
trailer, before you start the engine take the plugs out and ground
them, then whiz the engine over on the starter with the throttle
open. This will blow any water which may have accumulated in
the engine out through the plug holes. It is a faff I know
− but if you don’t and there is water in there a
hydraulic lock can occur and bend the conrods, hole the crank case
or even blow the cylinder clean off the crank case and through the
seat (a Polaris speciality). If we are carrying out a repair
for you we will always be happy to give any advice. |
